A Roman bronze statuette of the goddess Aphrodite

Description

A Roman bronze statuette of the goddess Aphrodite

A bronze statuette depicting the goddess nude and standing very gracefully. The right arm is raised, hand near the shoulder in a gesture, while the left hand is drawn across the chest in the modest “Venus Pudica” gesture popularized by the Praxitelean tradition. The head shows centrally parted hair bound by a fillet, with softly modeled, idealized features.

The surface carries a mottled green-red-ochre patina consistent with genuine ancient corrosion
