Description
An ancient iron imperial Roman pugio dagger preserved with its accompanying scabbard. The weapon features a broad, leaf-shaped blade with a raised central rib, a short grip with flared pommel, and a fitted sheath with riveted decoration and suspension rings for belt attachment.
This compact sidearm is closely associated with Roman soldiers and forms part of the distinctive equipment of the Roman military world. The piece remains in exceptional condition, retaining a strong overall form, visible construction details, and a striking archaeological presence, especially given iron’s natural vulnerability to corrosion over time.
