Description
An impressive group of four substantial silver bracelets forming two distinct pairs. The first pair is of heavy tubular construction with functional hinged closures, allowing the bracelets to open and close, while the second pair is of open penannular form, terminating in broad triangular ends richly decorated with applied granulation and geometric patterns.
The substantial construction and distinctive terminal decoration are characteristic of Fatimid-period silver jewelry from the Eastern Mediterranean. Particularly significant are closely related silver bracelets excavated in Fatimid-period contexts in Jerusalem and Caesarea, providing important archaeological parallels for this type of jewelry in the medieval Holy Land.
The surfaces retain extensive ancient patination and burial deposits, preserving their archaeological character.
