Canaanite Banded Alabaster Vase

Description
Description

This Canaanite  alabaster vase is rippled with the natural layers of the region’s alabaster. It is remarkable that this piece is in such excellent condition because alabaster is incredibly soft and prone to degradation. The smooth surfaces or this vase are delicate and precise, with the concave body pinching off to a flanged mouth in almost perfect symmetry.

This piece most likely held ointments or unguents for burial. Its thin sides and the alabaster’s bright hue give the piece a rich aesthetic that is timeless, making it perfect for display on any mantle in any room.
