Large Seljuk Gold Armlet with Ram-Head Terminals

Categories: , , , ,

Description

A large Seljuk gold armlet dating to the 11th-12th century A.D., formed as a twisted double-rope band with a bold, sculptural profile. The open-ended design terminates in two finely worked ram heads, each decorated with detailed facial features and set with small turquoise-colored inlays.

The twisted gold body gives the armlet a strong sense of movement and weight, while the ram-head terminals reflect the refined metalworking traditions of the Seljuk period. Animal-headed jewelry of this type carried associations of strength, protection, and status, making the piece both an ornament and a symbol of prestige.
