Description
A finely cast bronze horse bit comprising a straight mouthpiece flanked by matching openwork cheekpieces in the form of heraldic winged creatures. The fantastical animals are rendered with elongated necks, branching antlers, powerful quadruped bodies, and broad, ribbed wings, combining features of deer and griffins in a distinctly Near Eastern artistic tradition. Large suspension rings project from the lower body of each creature, providing attachment points for the reins while contributing to the sculptural elegance of the ensemble.
