This Greek Krater is a sure conversation piece for even established collectors. The wraparound painted scenes and designs are in excellent condition and show the fine details of the artist’s hand over 2000 years after the original composition.
Kraters held a mixture of wine and water at Greek symposiums, commonly known as drinking parties. This bell krater is associated with the latter years of the classical Greece era, or around 300 BC. The vessel’s shape is one hint of its date, but we can cite the red-figure composition (the color in which the persons are here depicted) particular to this era and type of krater as further evidence of this piece’s age. This krater is a modest 32 cm in height and is in excellent condition.
