The wide hips and pronounced naval are clues to which we can associate this figurine to the Canaanite fertility goddess Astarte, whose image is found throughout the kingdoms and eras of the Middle East and Northern Africa.
This small terracotta figure dates from the middle bronze age of approximately 2000 B.C.E. – 1500 B.C.E. in the ancient Levant, yet its simple details look fresh and show few signs of overall wear. Figurines of fertility goddesses have a long history in the architectural record, and this piece would make a meaningful addition to any serious collection.
