Category:
Description
Description

This is a large Canaanite wine jug made of a rich red ceramic called slip, a common ceramic used thousands of years ago in the ancient Levant. This old piece dates from approximately 3500 B.C.E. – 3000 B.C.E., yet its wonderfully bulbous body remains intact, rising to a simple flaring mouth and a short looped handle.

This rare jug once sloshed with a heavy load of wine, pouring its contents around an assembly of Canaanites in the desert city of Jericho. Measuring 23.5 cm in height, this 5000-year-old jug remains in excellent condition, making it a special relic of a truly ancient region.
